Plants of the genus Heracleum

Tall members of the carrot family, Apiaceae; for the genus as a whole, see Heracleum.

• Heracleum mantegazzianum, giant hogweed, the tallest of the invasive species, brought to western Europe as a garden curiosity
• Heracleum sosnowskyi, Sosnowsky’s hogweed, brought into cultivation in the Soviet Union as a silage crop
• Heracleum persicum, Persian hogweed, known in northern Norway as the “Tromsø palm” and in Iran, where its fruit is a spice, as golpar
• Heracleum sphondylium, hogweed or common hogweed, a native plant of European meadows and road verges, whose young leaves were once made into soup
