Proposal: hybridise the giant out of existence
Oppose. Stewart & Grace (1984) made the crosses. They work only with common hogweed as the seed parent, the hybrids are nearly sterile, and if any genes flow at all, they flow from the giant into the native plant, not the other way. They have: 59 insect species on one, 48 on the other, 23 on both, each carrying almost only the pollen of its own plant (Grace & Nelson 1981). — Kingfisher (talk) 12:07, 26 September 2026 (UTC)

Common hogweed grows wherever the giant does, and every cross dilutes the giant a little. Could the article present hybridisation as a gradual, peaceful method of control? No digging, no spraying, no confrontation. — Ed. Bernstein (talk) 11:52, 26 September 2026 (UTC)
